COMPETITION REPORT

On Sunday the 9th November, Arun Southcoast Judo Club headed to Oxford to take part in the White Horse Judo Club’s Open Competition.

The weigh-in was at 09:00 but for A.S.J.C. the first match was not until 14:00 making for a long morning.

Spirits remained high and it wasn’t too long before Connor Leonard was called. Starting only his second tournament in less than 10 days Connor was up against some very good and experienced opponents. Losing his first match to the eventual Gold Winner, Connor won his second match in style, losing his final match by the narrowest of margins in a battle for Silver. Bronze was a fantastic achievement by Connor – Well Done.

Charlie was up next and representing Arun only for the 2nd time as a Junior. His first opponent was dispatched  quickly in true Charlie style and his second opponent was on the mat shortly afterwards. Just as he did the week before at Southampton Charlie took Gold – Well Done.

When Josh Smith was called everyone watched with anticipation. Thankfully for the travelling support Josh was in explosive form and gave his opponents a torid time on the mat. Josh’s first opponent was quite tricky and with the referee stopping the match every so often neither fighter could find their form. Then in true Josh Smith style he performed a smooth execution sweep and took the win. Josh kept up his winning streak and won his next two matches very quickly to earn himself Gold – Well Done Josh.

Keyahnoush was last to take the mat and it was worth the weight. Keyo was up against three very strong opponents each determined to win. After winning his first two fights it was clear Keyo was here for Gold. Some great Judo enabled him to drop his next two opponents and take back yet another Gold for Team Arun. Well Done Keyo!
